The Current Mood

Iona and Romy are SAGE Flowers, a florist based in Peckham. Inspired by a wide range of art, design and subculture, arrangements are contemporary and modern, often using different floral and non-floral elements to come together as a unique sculptural piece. Post lockdown, make sure it’s high on your list of places to visit in person, the shop is a visual and aromatic feast. Plus, Iona and Romy are always up for a chat.

There’s a whole host of options at SAGE for Christmas gifting, but a monthly floral subscription has got to be their best offering. Their gift selection of incredible candles, sweet treats and beauty products are lovely, too.

FYI, SAGE are also trying to address the very real barriers to entry for black, indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) by offering a free three month training programme, planned to run four times a year.

GUSTATORY is a coffee marketplace, where you’re able to discover quality beverages from the worlds’ best independent coffee roasters, tea makers and artisan beverage brands and order monthly subscription packages.

In building their selection, their focus has been on independents. This is because they want to boost local economies and communities – and to rethink those purchases from chains or supermarkets, by doing the hard work for you and curating a selection of the best. Their monthly coffee subscriptions make for a wonderful Christmas gift, particularly when WFH is still a huge part of our lives.

Inspired by the natural colours and textures of the earth, Naked Clay Ceramics is a collection of quiet, tactile, minimal style tableware and homeware in black stoneware and white porcelain. Using a combination of handbuilding and slip casting, everything is made by hand by Carla Sealey in her studio in Bedfordshire.

Each piece is completely individual, so a one-of-a-kind gift. Be quick though – Carla’s beautiful pieces sell out very quickly!

As she put herself: ‘From my hands to yours, I hope the natural feel of fired earth in your hands gives you a moment to pause and enjoy.’ What better gift can there be than that?

Pump Street is an award-winning bakery in the village of Orford on Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. After mastering naturally-leavened bread, they ventured into making chocolate from beans we import directly from single estates and cooperatives around the world.

They produce delicious chocolate (tried and tested) by sourcing cacao from growers who ferment and dry the beans at origin. The packaging is a treat too – making it perfect for Christmas gifting!

Farmdrop lead with the tagline ‘Exceptional food. Expertly sourced’ – encouraging a return to organic and sustainable food systems. They responsibly source all their food with the environment and animal welfare in mind, and this makes for high quality and fresh produce.

Top Christmas tip: check out their blog for some delicious recipe ideas.

There’s a wealth of beautiful gifts on the website to begin with – think high quality olive oils, natural wines and sweet treats, or there’s a gift card option.

Bable your table with these gorgeous homemade and hand painted candles and gift them to all your Christmas season loving pals!

There is also a range of Christmas designs, but be quick, they sell out extremely fast.
